The Run for the Stanley

A hard won cup as Pittsburgh players rack up their hockey sticks, recount what went wrong, and head home to vacation the summer mowing their lawns.

Detroit Red Wing are one of the final contenders for the 2008 Stanley Cup Championship and the odds on favorite.
Detroit Red Wing NHLLogo.

The race for the Stanley Cup has begun.  The pucks are flying....
to the net, past the net and into the nets of both!

The Stanley Cup - Second Heat

For Boston Bruins, and Predators the season's up I see.
Ditto now for Ottawa, and guys from Calgary.
Ducks and all the Capitals now free to mow the lawn.
Their oh eight chance for Stanley Cup now is surely gone.

Ever onward all the rest. Round two is on your plate.
Hockey at it's finest. 'Til you can hardly skate.
Blocks and goals and super stops, fans savor every one.
Things are getting serious. The season's nearly done.

Endurance, speed and injury all factors in the games.
Attitudes come into play and quickly fan the flames.
Hits taken there upon boards not just a painful sound.
Blood and guts to make it through beyond the second round.

Rely not just on talent of some players on a team.
Sheer desire, and major effort now can realize this dream.
Team work in the locker room and there upon the ice.
Determines those that get to go for yet another slice.

Run For The Stanley 2008

It's playoff time, the winning teams, are numbered up to eight.
To give a go for playoff time, the teams can scarcely wait.
There stands the mighty Stanley Cup, the prize that will be won.
All player's hearts in earnest, until the deed is done.

The Super Eight will filter out, 'til one team meets the West.
Unknowns and many factors, determine who's the best.
Who'll loft the mighty Stanley? Of all the powers that be?
Big factor is the goalies, or it would seem to me.

Emery and Gerber, seem on a down hill slide
So Ottawa must overcome to take it a full ride.
Flury and Ty Conklin, they could be tough to beat.
Pittsburgh team in front of them, sure can take the heat.

Price and Halak in the net, now there's a team to fear.
No super stars, but talent, across the board I hear.
Brodeur and Weeks are padding up to helm the Devil's stand.
Determined, holding steady, if things sway out of hand.

Martin Biron and Nitty, now there's an awesome pair.
Philly plucks a zero game from out the thinnest air.
Thomas rallies Boston, with Ald his backup man.
Although they're solid in the net it's doubtful Bruins can.

Huet and Kolzig, Washington, will fill the goalie crease.
So far their "AO" effort, has not failed to cease.
Lundquist, backup Baliquette, in the Rangers net.
Heavy trust in Henrik, now just the score to set.

Hockey at it's finest is, sweet end of season fare.
One of eight will take it, from start to way up there.
To bring the Stanley East my friends, is all we ask these teams.
Some place where it's closer in, to fuel our Sabres dreams.
