An Artica Burr short story featuring Artie,a fictional polar bear

Polar bears range in the upper northern hemisphere.

We all do seem to be attracted to polar bears!  They are located in the North Pole area not the South Pole area of Antarctica where our travel trip took place.  While they are a force to be reckoned with in the wild, we enjoy imagining they deserve our affection.

BUT what about IMAGINATION!  What if ... in a fictional story a polar bear does get to travel to Antarctica?  What would happen if Artica Burr added to the fiction story the mighty MS Fram, her Captain Rune Andreassen, and Lynda Joy Smith to the story?

The story of Artie's adventure has just begun!  More pages will be posted as it is written!  This story is an example of real individuals imbedded in total fiction!  Just for fun writing as writing should be  .... Fun!

Enjoy reading and writing!

Characters In The Story

Lynda Joy Smith, an Australian travel writer, visited Antarctica in February 2008 and shared her experiences with US middle school students via the web in a shared hands across the sea writing project with an American youth fiction writer Artica Burr.

Lynda Joy Smith

With her spirit of adventure, and always trying to do her best in any given situation, Lynda is the perfect real life character to be our model for "Lynda the Explorer".  If a polar bear had to depend on someone Lynda would be a very good choice!

Captain Rune Andreassen

As Captain of the MS Fram he has great knowledge of the seas and care and concern for the comfort and safety of his passengers.  Rune is a perfect model for "Captain Rune".  If a polar bear were to travel to Antarctica choosing the MS Fram and it's Captain would be an excellent choice!

Artie

Not having a polar bear in my back yard, (even if I am in Buffalo), the basic personality of Artie the polar bear follows that of Arthur my pup.  Young and precocious, full of curiosity, always sorry but getting in trouble once again, Artie helps me envision the young polar bear.  His brown eyes, black nose and white fur and pointed nose fall in place, but I admit the ears are as non polar bear as they can get!

Captain Rune Andreassen, on the MS Fram does an excellent job seeing to the safety and comfort of his passengers.

Polar bears are very good swimmers and it is uncertain how far they can swim at one time.
