Mighty Little Penguin

Mighty little penguin
Born in bitter cold
With body just as flexible
As a Jello mold.

To seek a cozy climate
Is not the penguin's choice.
Disclosed if it be boy or girl
Only by it's voice.

He swims the icy waters
Searching for a snack.
To the frigid temperature
He simply turns his back.

Finding warmth in numbers
With always much to say.
Passing all his leisure time
In joyful art of play.

Fluff to smoother feathers.
Survival?  A good chance!
Growing up tuxedoed
For the glacial dance.

X Marks The Spot

To study on the penguin, is not an easy task.
Fact is they all look alike, identity a mask.
You can not isolate one.  They hang out in a group.
Everywhere they gather, tons of penguin poop.

Slipping also sliding, we pitched a shelter tent.
Trying hard to monitor, where one penguin went.
We came to the conclusion, to finish our report
Required participation, in the wrestling sport.

Selected independent, of the clustered group.
Fanned out as we waded, through the dropping soup.
Charged in bumping bellies.  He's near as tall as me.
Flippers, beak a-waving, determined to stay free.

I wound him in a bear hug, but 'round him you can't reach.
Twisting and then shouting, he let a penguin screech.
His flab made holding tricky.  Muscles awfully strong.
It took more than two of us, to make things move along.

He raised his foot upon my knee.  We gave a double thrust.
To get him to the ground, 'twas give a go or bust.
Indeed it was a struggle, to hold him there in place.
Intent upon our effort, to leave a marking trace.

White and silver belly now wore a grease paint "X".
Tracking of this penguin, no more would perplex.
Now among the others, a stand out in the crowd.
Our film of the capture?  Laughter long and loud!

Lynda, don't forget to take a moment or two to read to a couple penguins.  I sure bet no one else will!       AB
