Two Versions Are Better Than One!

Buffalo has long been the victim of periodic lake effect snow.  This is due to it's Lake Erie shoreline location.  When Lake Erie is NOT frozen over, extra mosture adds to the folly of storms.  Not to worry!  Buffalonians need not depend on lake effect completely.  There are plenty of snow storms coming from every other direction willing and able to settle on the city.  Let me take a moment to thank our friends in Canada for the Artic cold front international exchange.  How thoughtful!

A word of advice about what to do in Buffalo if a major snow occurs,
from Ex-Mayor Jimmy Griffin:

"Get yourself a six-pack and stay home!"

Pause for Thought

When weather brings us snowflakes
And the wind ignites their dance
It seems like Mother Nature
Seeks to give mankind a chance.
To view a world more perfect
Then what on earth we've wrought.
Erase our indiscretions
And give us pause for thought.

To reinforce impressions
Morning sun at her command
Her smile of brilliant diamonds
Can sweep across the land.
The vision that she painted
For as far as eye can see
Is delivering a message
To the likes of you and me.

Before you tread upon the scene
Join in nature's voice.
Make a silent promise
As each we have a choice.
Remember well the earth we use
Is Mother Nature's too.
The gift the earth is yearning for?
Respect from me and you.

A Buffalo Long Winter

When weather brings us snowflakes
And the wind ignites their dance
In Buffalo there's boots and gloves
And quests for new snow pants.
Peeks out the frosty windows
To see what has been wrought.
How we're going to move the snow
Is always our first thought.

The depth was only chest high
When we went off to bed.
Fear of school closings
Chilling in our head.
Bundled like a bison
Snow blower just won't start.
Our local wind can penetrate
The trustiest Carhartt.

Fueled up on Hot Chocolate
Brave as knights of old
We battle with our shovels
Our driveways to unfold.
Determined we accomplish.
Not a one time quirk.
A Buffalo Tradition . .
The wife must get to work.
