Linda Joy Smith gets up close and personal on her trip to Antarctica.
Lynda Smith Tells the Penguin About the Goalie King

Looks like Lynda is explaining to the little penguin that the King's castle might be way over the mountains and ice over thata way!  If he gets to Port Lockroy he can get further directions.

The beauty of Antarctica is home to the Gentoo penguin
Antarctica is the penguin's beautiful world

As summer days tick by some locations in Antarctica look like a world of floating ice cubes.

Some Young Penguins still tag along with their mothers

The young Gentoos are still fat and have some fluff.  Note the chunky one on the far left.

Penguins Learn To Skate

This sure looks like a hockey practice to me.  They even fall on the ice like little start to learn to skate players.  Learning to skate is an important step for hockey and for the little penguins.  They large part of their lives will be spent on the ice.   Maybe the "Goalie King" new story should include a team "Port Lockroy"!

Antarctica There is Always One in Charge

Penguins always have a lot to say and love to chatter at each other.  Looks to me penguin three is scolding, "You promised to spend more time with ME today!"  Penguin two, "What did I do wrong?"   While penguin one on the left advises, "Aw, just cool your feet!".

Antarctic Gentoo Penguins are very friendly
Penguin points to a good photo location

Some Gentoos are born entertainers.  They tap, dance and flap away!  This penguin really wants to dance to the music!

Gentoo Penguin Points In Another Direction

All that grooming certainly pays off when it's photo time.  No penguin with dirty feathers ever made the cover of National Geographic magazine.  Penguins have carefree attitudes!

Antarctica Taking a Moment to Talk Things Over

Looks like this little penguin thought Geoff just might be Santa.  Of course he had to be disappointed and told this was Antarctica near the South Pole.  I'll bet this little guy was all set to ask for some real sparkley stones for Christmas!

PLEASE take my picture

He could be drying his flippers but all I can think is "Hey, funny creatures!  Pick me.  Take my picture please!"

Antarctia's beautiful changing icescape
Antarctica is a land of beautiful ice sculptures

What a beautiful photo!  The shape of the ice and texture reminds me of a frozen dragon's head!  It looks like the little penguin is washing his feet.

Antarctia Macaroni Penguin and Friends

Grooming is a full time occupation for penguins.  Napping follows grooming.  If the rocks are staggered like these are, pretty soon it's time to groom again, and again and again.  It's hard to stay clean for any length of time when you're a penguin.  One is a popular number to see on a penguin's back.

And One Macaroni penguin just for good measure!
